Doctor Sleep (Movie Review)

DS 3

Release Date: November 08, 2019

Genre: Horror

Cast: Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, Kyliegh Curran, Carl Lumbly, Zahn McClarnon, Emily Alyn Lind

Summary (from Rotten Tomatoes):

“Doctor Sleep” is the continuation of Danny Torrance’s story 40 years after the terrifying events of Stephen King’s The Shining. Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the “shine.” Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality. Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before-at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.

Review By Me

Last month, I watched The Shining for the first time. I know, with me being a horror fan, I should’ve been seen this horror classic, but you know what they say, better late than never. Now set decades after the events in The Shining, we see a grown-up Danny Torrance played by Ewan McGregor, who struggles with childhood trauma and alcoholism. I was excited to see Doctor Sleep, because when I saw the movie trailer, I got goosebumps, and my goosebumps mean that a movie is gonna be good. The cast in this movie did an amazing job, the acting was great, and the new characters were interesting. I want to highlight the performances of Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, and Kyliegh Curran. Ewan McGregor gave a fine performance as an older Danny; I love the relationship he had with Aba Stone, a kid who also has “the shine”, a role played by newcomer, Kyliegh Curran, who gave a powerhouse performance as the fearless, powerful, little girl who embraced her “shine”, I loved it. Rebecca Ferguson gave a terrifying performance as Rose the Hat, a cult leader who feeds on children with psychic powers. Speaking of cult leader, the cult goes by the name of “The True Knot”. I’m not gonna say much, except that these people are bad, terrifying, and hunts kids with “the shine”. In Doctor Sleep we get to see flashbacks from The Shining, which you kind of figured you would see. Being a sequel to the horror classic, The Shining, the movie stands on its own, and it shines lol.  I really enjoyed this movie, it’s definitely one of my favorite movies of the year ! The movie score was haunting, and the visuals were stunning, I was not disappointed. Doctor Sleep is one of Stephen King’s best film adaptations as well as one of my favorites. Is it safe to say that I like Doctor Sleep a bit more than The Shining ?  If you’re a fan of Stephen King, then you should watch this movie, or if you are into Horror Or Suspense, then this movie should be on your must see list. Will you guys be seeing Doctor Sleep ? If so, let me know in the comments below. As always thanks for reading !

Monday, the 21st was my 26th birthday, and I had the whole week off from work, which I loved, and enjoyed ! Since I went to Halloween Horror Nights as an birthday gift to myself earlier this month, I really did not plan on doing anything else for my birthday except laying in my bed watching Horror/Halloween movies, and some of my favorite tv shows surrounded by snacks and wine; And that’s exactly what I did !

IMG_7659

IMG_7719

I kind of had myself a mini birthday photo shoot; I had fun doing this and being creative is something I love, so this was perfect ; With a couple of balloons from Party City and a cute simple birthday look, anyone can do this. Also those number balloons were $1.99 each, which is a steal !

Fun Fact: Pink and Turquoise are also my favorite colors.

“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”

IMG_8009

I watched the horror classic The Shining, and a Halloween/Horror favorite, Trick ‘R Treat, both are must sees by the way ! I also had some Pink Stella Rosa wine with some cheese, turkey, crackers, and grapes, just living my life lol.

Surprise from my siblings !

My brother and sister surprised me with more balloons and a cute little cupcake; They know I’m not much of a cake eater, so they just bought me something smaller, I still haven’t ate it yet lol.

Birthday Cards !

I don’t know about y’all, but every Birthday card, Christmas card, etc. that I’ve received that I can recall, I’ve kept; I just feel weird just throwing them out, so why not keep them; Check out the Birthday cards I got this year !

Snacks and Halloween movies !

What’s Halloween season without watching a few Halloween classics and favorites. This whole week off, I’ve been in my bed watching Horror and Halloween movies; I love horror movies and I watch those anytime, but watching them during the Halloween season is more spookier. I still plan on watching more Halloween movies up until Halloween is over; Here’s a few that I’ve watched so far: Hocus Pocus ( a classic), Corpse Bride, Monster House, and A Nightmare Before Christmas. Of course I have more to watch; And as far as snacks go, I had my favorite, sweet and salty: Pretzels, Sour Patches, Peanut M&Ms, Snickers, and popcorn !

IMG_8185

Birthday Wishes

I’ve received many Birthday wishes on my Birthday, and it was really nice for them to do, so here’s another thank you to everyone who has wished me a Happy Birthday ! My 26th birthday was fun, relaxing, and was spent doing what I love; Here’s to turning 26 !

Joker (Movie Review)

JOKER #14

Release Date: October 04, 2019

Genre: Action & Adventure, Drama, Mystery & Suspense

Cast: Joaquin Phoenix, Robert DeNiro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Shea Whigham

Summary (from Rotten Tomatoes):

“Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.

Review By Me

The Joker is one of the greatest comic book villains ever, and one of my favorites. I fell in love with The Joker when Heath Ledger portrayed him in 2008’s The Dark Knight. He gave an amazing performance as the character, which earned him praise for fully immersing himself into this role; This also earned him a well-deserved Oscar. A little over a decade later, a film on the origins of the iconic villain is now out, starring the talented Joaquin Phoenix. When I heard a Joker film was being released I was excited because The Joker is a great villain. The fact that Joaquin Phoenix is starring in this role is perfect, because he is a great actor. The entire cast of the movie was great: Zazie Beetz, Robert DeNiro, and Frances Conroy, but the star of the film is no doubt Joaquin Phoenix. I loved him when he starred as Johnny Cash in Walk The Line, and I love him even more in this role. The role of The Joker has great character development, and Joaquin brought that darkness and tragedy to the role. My favorite part of the movie is maybe about the last 45 minutes to a hour of the film, when Arthur Fleck, embraces his Joker alter ego; That last hour of the movie gave me chills, I loved it ! Another thing about this movie is the suspense; It’s like you don’t know what will happen next, but I think that’s a great thing. The director of the movie, Todd Phillips did an extraordinary job with Joker, he captured the story of the character so well with the darkness and grittiness. The cinematography and score were brilliant, I wouldn’t be surprised if the movie received Oscar nominations for its cinematography, score, and more. Joker is an amazing, dark, gritty, and intense masterpiece taking us into the origin of Gotham’s and comic book’s iconic and greatest villain. Joaquin Phoenix gives a tour de force performance, which deserves an Oscar nomination and a win for sure ! This movie is one of the best comic book movies I’ve seen and is one of my favorite movies of the year ! Joker is a cinematic piece of art and a movie that I would go see again. This is a must see film ! Have you guys seen Joker ? Or do you plan on seeing it ? Let me know in the comment below. As always thanks for reading !

Halloween Horror Nights 2019 at Universal Studios Orlando

CF56D383-B257-4CE9-803C-9D2A94D91FFE

Well guys, it’s that time of the year; Horror fans can attend the Horror event of the year, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios. I live in Florida so I attended the event in Orlando. Fans can attend HHN during the following dates: September 06 – November 02, 2019. Being a fan of Horror movies, I first attended my first HHN last year, and of course I had to attend again this year ! This blog post will be about my time at this year’s HHN (unfortunately I wasn’t able to record in the haunted houses, but I got some great pics !

Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville

When we got to Universal Studios, we had a few hours before the HHN event began, so we decided to have lunch at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville restaurant; I had a raspberry Margarita to drink, which had the right amount of sweet & alcohol; Honestly I wasn’t hungry, because I was too excited about HHN, so I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with fries, which was good.

HHN’S 2019 Merch

Okay so let me just say, that this year’s merch is cool, retro, and colorful –which I love by the way. I had a hard time trying to decide what merch I wanted to buy, but you’ll see what I bought towards the end 😉 I also loved how the merch booths were all representing the haunted houses !

2019 Haunted Houses

786F7EBD-5D53-442D-AD1D-6FB22F1583E8

This year’s HHN had a whopping ten haunted houses, which included:

Stranger Things
Jordan Peele’s Us
Universal Monsters
Ghostbusters
Killer Klowns From Outer Space
House of 1000 Corpses
Depths of Fear
Graveyard Games
Nightingales Blood Pit
Yeti: Terror of the Yukon

Unfortunately we weren’t able to go to all ten houses, but I did meet my goal of going to five of them which included: Jordan Peele’s Us, Universal Monsters, Killer Klowns From Outer Space, Nightingales Blood Pit, and Yeti: Terror of the Yukon Details. Towards the end, I’ll rank the five houses that I attended from my most favorite to least favorite ! Also I wasn’t able to capture some of the houses via photo/video, but let’s get started !

Killer Klowns From Outer Space – This one was fun; It felt like a crazed carnival klown house; Plus the Klowns were also creepy lol

CE12DC3D-A8EE-40B0-9837-5F4FC31C5793

Universal Monsters – This one was awesome; Getting to see the Classic Monsters was cool. This house was also on my must see list, and it was definitely one of my favorites !

754A8918-D58A-4681-8392-700E7ECEF8AF

Nightingales Blood Pit – This one was okay; I liked that the setting had us feeling like we were in the ancient Roman times.

5C5DF33A-0313-4DF3-8285-102EDC862085

Haunted Houses (Most Favorite to Least Favorite)

Okay so as I stated above, I wasn’t able to see all ten houses, but seeing five of the houses in addition to getting on some rides, made the night great ! So with that being said I’m going to rank the five houses that I did go to, starting with my most favorite to least favorite !

Universal Monsters – This one is my favorite; From the way the Monsters were displayed on the warehouse, to seeing those legendary monsters in the house, I loved it ! The house was so detailed, I felt alive lol ; This house was definitely fun to go through and I really enjoyed it !

Killer Klowns From Outer Space – This house was fun and reminded me so much of the movie; Smelling the popcorn, and seeing the cotton candy cocoons, I was like wow ! And then the klowns with their big creepy grins, they were scary enough lol; This house was awesome !

Jordan Peele’s Us – I really enjoyed the movie, so I was excited when they announced this as one of the houses; This one did not scare me a lot, but the house was nice; I was literally walking through the movie and I thought the set up was amazing, it was very detailed.

Yeti: Terror of the Yukon  – Now typically when we hear about Yetis we think scary and big; I felt like this while walking through the house; There were torn up and dismembered bodies throughout the house, and the suspense of not knowing when the Yeti would come out; This house was fun, but not memorable !

Nightingales Blood Pit – Okay the ancient Roman setting was nice; The scares of this house was about the same as the Yeti house; It was nice to experience, however the house was fun, but not memorable !

Drink Break – The Twilight Gateway

I couldn’t do HHN without getting an alcoholic beverage in a souvenir cup, so you know I had to get one, and of course I got the Universal Monsters cup ! The drink I got was The Twilight Gateway, which is a tequila-based cocktail with watermelon, pineapple juice, orange juice, and grenadine — It was good, just the right amount of sweet and alcohol lol, how all drinks should be !

A8D71250-AA3C-4516-89ED-8774BE2A99FE

Universal Studios Orlando Attractions – The attractions that were open during HHN

Transformers The Ride – 3D
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
Revenge of The Mummy
Men In Black Alien Attack
The Simpsons Ride
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley
Fast & Furious Supercharged

We went on all the attractions, except we weren’t able to go to Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley !

Transformers The Ride – 3D

Our favorites were the Transformers The Ride – 3D, Revenge of The Mummy, and The Simpson Ride — These three were fun, exciting, and definitely worth riding ! The Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit was scary; Yeah you get to choose music to listen to on the ride, but I couldn’t enjoy it because I was too busy screaming lol.

2019’s HHN Souvenirs

This year’s merch is fun, retro, and colorful, so you know I had to buy some; Like last year, I bought a shirt, a shot glass, and of course my souvenir cup !

It’s finally October you guys ! My favorite and the BEST month of the year is here lol. I love Halloween, and Fall; And let’s not forget Horror movies; I mean I watch those year round, but hey watching them during October makes it even more awesome !

This will just be a quick post on me decorating my room for Halloween, and letting you guys know where I got my decorations from. Let’s start !

IMG_1179 (1)

This is a poster I had from last year and it was still in good condition; So why not use it ? I mean IT (2017) is one of my favorite horror films and Pennywise is a favorite of mine.. I  bought this poster from Wal-Mart for $5.00 and it looks good on my closet door.

IMG_1180

Now this Beware or Caution tape you can get from Dollar Tree as well; But I got this particular tape from Walmart, only cost me $0.98; It’s simple but an effective piece of decoration; This is on my other closet door.

IMG_1198

This is my small table that is by my DVD rack and window ! I couldn’t wait to decorate this little section. Yes the table is small, but it is just enough lol… I got the ‘Hello Pumpkin’ mug from Marshalls, I believe it was $4.99; The ‘scary’ sign is from Dollar General, which costs me a dollar. The small, glitter pumpkin comes in a pack of three pumpkins from Target for $3.00, and the lights on the wall are from Dollar Tree (Yep $1.00)

Non-Halloween items:

Desk light : $5.00 from Five Below

Desk plant: $4.00 from Target

Picture Frame: $1.00 from Dollar Tree // Picture inside frame, found on Google.

Small Table: $ 5.00 from Five Below

IMG_1166 (1)

These decorations are placed on my nightstand. I used a Starbucks Frappuccino glass bottle for the flower vase, and put some fall themed flowers from Dollar Tree; The candle comes from Bath and Body Works, which I got on sale for $14.95; The pumpkin on top was a free gift (it’s magnetic). The purple glittery light up skull (I have a few of these at work too) are from Dollar Tree.

IMG_1207 (1)

Here’s another view of my flowers; The crystals are glow in the dark and they’re from Michaels, which cost about $4.99; I thought this was a nice touch lol; I also have another dollar sign from Dollar General, that says ‘Beware’.

IMG_1201

Just a cute and simple pumpkin banner hanging behind my T.V. that I got from Walmart for $0.98.

IMG_1154 (1)

This cute sparkly spider web came from Dollar Tree !

IMG_1200

Lastly in my window, I got this glass flask from Michaels on sale for $4.99 (which I put those glow in the dark crystals in ); I got the small Halloween sign from Wal-Mart for $2.98 and the glitter pumpkin came from Dollar Tree.

I know that it may look like my decorations are all over the place, but I like it like that ! They’re simple, and fun ! You don’t have to spend a lot of money to put up Halloween decorations, heck you can even reuse some from last year ! You can have fun and save money decorating for Halloween, and if you need suggestions, the stores I named above are great places to look and shop ! Thanks again boils and ghouls for reading ! Until next time !

Review By Me

I loved 2017’s IT, it’s one of my favorite horror movies, so of course I could not wait for IT: Chapter Two to be released. The first one was really good and so I knew the second one would be great as well. IT: Chapter Two takes place 27 years later, after the Losers Club make a pact to return to Derry, if IT (Pennywise) returns. I bought the book a while ago and had plans to have it completed before I went to see the second part, but time got the best of me; However, I still plan to continue and finish the book. Within the first 15- 20 minutes of the movie, it’s like what I had read was right in front of me on the screen. I was pretty excited, because I did not think those specific parts of the book, would be in the movie, for some reason, it was exciting to me. Now let’s talk about the Losers Club. I think the casting of the grown-up version of the kids was perfect, look wise and personality wise. They all did a great job of acting. I also loved how we were able to see flashbacks of the young Losers Club, including scenes we did not see in the first film, it was kind of nostalgic. Let’s talk about the star of the film, Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. I love Bill as Pennywise; he gives a great performance, just like how he did in the first film. He’s menacing, creepy, and terrifying. I read some reviews where some people were complaining about the film’s length being almost three hours long; I did not have a problem with the film’s length, but I kind of feel that since the book is over 1,000 pages, an almost three hour long film should not be a problem. Also, Bill Hader playing the older Richie Tozier, I read that people thought the movie had too many funny scenes/ jokes. This character is known to be funny, and he crack jokes. I was expecting him to be funny in this film and I did not think it was a problem. We did not see Pennywise much in the film, but his slight absence made it more terrifying, because he would manifest into their fears, which is pretty scary enough ! Andy Muschietti did a great job with the second part of IT, just like he did with the first one. This is a well-written film, as well as an intense emotional ride – for the audience and the characters. This film contained a few surprises, but that may be because the audience may not have read the book, or the director wanted to add an element of surprise to the film; I loved the movie and would recommend this film to watch. IT: Chapter Two is a great conclusion to the story and I think it is just like the first film: a horror masterpiece; Let me know in the comments if you plan on seeing this film, if not You’ll Float Too ! As always thanks for reading !
