Movie Review

When I saw the trailer for this movie, it piqued my interest to see it. A science fiction horror film that takes place under water is interesting and a little scary, because water can be calm yet dangerous, and since this crew is in the deep, dark, waters of the Mariana Trench for the duration of the movie you can only imagine the fear that they are experiencing. At 95 minutes the movie moves at a fast pace, which I wasn’t complaining about. Maybe 10 minutes after the movie started, the subterranean research station is hit by what the crew members believe is to be an earthquake, and the movie doesn’t stop from there. I was surprised how fast the action started and I loved it, I mean its always nice when action in a film happens quickly, and I was on the edge of my seat from there. Underwater features Kristen Stewart, Vincent Cassel, and TJ Miller, the entire cast gave decent performances, but I want to highlight Kristen Stewart; She gave a lead badass performance and probably one of my favorite roles she starred in. The visuals in this movie were nice, including the action scenes and whenever we saw the creatures; This movie also featured some great cinematography, especially underwater, even though it was dark, and there was debris, it was shot beautifully. And while the movie isn’t super scary, there were a few jump scare scenes that had my heart racing because you’re slightly scared for the crew and want them all to survive and at the same time wonder what is attacking the crew. After a while we get a look at the grotesque, humanoid sea creatures. This is a fun, entertaining, intense, fast paced movie that features a great, lead performance by Kristen Stewart, along with the other cast members ! Underwater is a good horror movie for the month of January and while it may be slightly terrifying , it’s a treat to watch, and a movie I recommend you to see. Thanks for reading !
