Megan Thee Stallion’s Good News Album Review

Release Date: November 20, 2020

Houston Hottie, Megan The Stallion released her first debut studio album, Good News last Friday. I’m still shocked that this is her debut full length album since she’s been dropping great music over the last two years. With her debut dropped, you know The Hotties were excited to get a piece of Good News. Megan with her unique, sleek, and Houston flow and sound is known for her confidence, sensuality, an explicit lyrics and I am here for it. There’s nothing wrong with a woman embracing and being confident about their sexuality, and I love that about her and she also embraces all body types. On this album Megan addresses the gun shooting controversy regarding Tory Lanez, which she talks about in “Shots Fired”, a song that samples The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Who Shot Ya ?” Other songs to listen out for are “Body” a catchy song about body positivity, and “ Outside” a fun, sing- song track that features a sample of Michele’s “There’s Something In My Heart”. Here’s the tracklist for Good News, I’ve also bolded my favorite tracks off the album.

1. Shots Fired

2. Circles

3. Cry Baby ft. DaBaby

4. Do It On The Tip ft. City Girls & Hot Girl Meg

Here are a few reviews of the album by critics:

Alexis Petridis of The Guardian noted that the album highlighted that Megan is “phenomenal at what she does,” and further described her talents as “a moveable feast.”

Robin Murray of Clash wrote that “Good News is the sound of Megan Thee Stallion pushing against the boundaries and an album overwhelming in its creative intensity”. Apart from hailing it a “late contender of the Album of the Year”, Murray stated that “the album emphasizes the riveting nature of her self-expression, and her canny ear as a cultural curator”.

A. D. Amorosi of Variety wrote that the album is “focused on fun while still being a proud statement on Black womanhood” and concluded that it finds Megan “moving confidently to the next level”, though the writer noted “Outside” and other “uncluttered” tracks to be “more warm-blooded than most of Good News, one wishes there was more of that sound on her debut album.”

Good News is a solid debut album by Megan Thee Stallion, it’s fun, raw, and sensual. This album features catchy songs with great hooks and choruses, and her well known lyricism and delivery. Have you listened to this album, if so what are your favorite tracks ?
