Review By Me

Disney’s 1992 Aladdin is one of my favorite animated movies, so when I heard about a live action version of Aladdin being released, I was pretty excited..Alright let’s get into the review. I want to start of by saying that I really enjoyed this movie. The three main stars of the film: Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Naomi Scott (Princess Jasmine), and Will Smith (Genie) all did a great job. Mena played Aladdin perfectly and reminded me so much of the title character from the animated film. He was charming and it was exciting to see him on the screen. Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine reminded me of Jasmine from the animated film and she is all about the girl power and not being silenced by the laws of Agrabah. And I loved Will Smith as the Genie, he put his own touch to it, and him as the Genie was funny and enjoyable. The whole cast did a great job in this movie, and bought the characters of the animated movie to life. Okay can we talk about the visuals? The visuals in this movie are amazing, they are colorful and vibrant; The CGI was also nice, the animals looked real without looking too animated. The music in Aladdin, was very nostalgic. I was singing along in my head, although I wanted to sing out loud lol. Those classic songs from the original movie, definitely brought back memories. Not only did we hear the original songs but we got to hear a new song that was sung by Naomi Scott called “Speechless”, a song about having a voice and not being silenced, which is a beautiful song. Jafar in this Aladdin was a bit toned down as opposed to the animated film, he was a bit weaker in the live version, but this did not effect the movie overall. I loved Aladdin, and its one of my favorite Disney live action films.. This movie is fun, magical, and colorful filled with humor, and charm. This film is a must see, and I think any fan of the original will enjoy it ! Thanks for reading !

Avengers: Endgame (Movie Review)

Endgame 2

Release Date: April 26, 2019

Genre: Action & Adventure, Drama

Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner

Summary (from Rotten Tomatoes):

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

Review By Me

MCU’s 22nd film, Avengers: Endgame was released this past weekend and in less than a week, this film has made an estimated $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office for its opening and will continue to break records. At last Marvel fans, the most anticipated movie of the year is out, and is everything we could hope for. Just as Marvel fans and I have anticipated Infinity War, Endgame is no different. In Infinity War, the Avengers and their allies are trying to stop Thanos from collecting the Infinity Stones, which wasn’t successful; Thanos snapped away half the universe after getting the stones; In Endgame, the Avengers and their allies plan is to find Thanos, undo what he has done and defeat him….For me sitting in the movie theater waiting for the movie to start, had me feeling anxious, because you don’t know how the movie will come on; This movie had me on the edge of my seat — Not in a horror movie thriller type way, but in a way where you have this built up anticipation and you are excited yet anxious not knowing what will happen next. If you are Marvel fan, then you’ve become familiar with these characters, these heroes; they become apart of you, being emotionally invested in these movies and characters is an amazing thing. I also love that the cast has this great family bond on and off screen, which you can see throughout the movie; The acting is strong and every time you see them just reminds you why you fell in love with the characters, the actors, and the movies. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Jeremy Renner, yes the original 6: The Avengers, gave some emotionally charged and funny performances; And with Endgame concluding the first three phases it’s no surprise. Plus what’s a MCU movie without a few funny scenes. MCU movies are also great on the action and special effects; I mean come on from Thanos himself to the great fight scenes, what’s not to enjoy watching. Avengers: Endgame is an epic, emotional, exciting and amazing experience. Over 10 years leading up to this, the fans got the movie we’ve been anticipating., including a few surprises (yes surprises). I cried several times during the film, I cheered, and laughed –This movie was definitely an emotional roller coaster. Endgame is a great conclusion to wrap up the first three phases of the MCU movies.. It does saddens me to see this concluding the first ten years of the MCU, but makes me happy and excited for the future movies that will be released. I loved Endgame, and it is one of my favorite movies in the MCU; So yes, three thousand times yes (did you catch the Endgame reference ? lol), I recommend you to see Avengers: Endgame — And if you are a Marvel fan, then I’m sure by now you’ve seen the movie, and if you have let me know what you think in the comments below; And if you haven’t seen it, then what are you waiting for lol ? As always thanks for reading !

Shazam! (Movie Review)

SHAZAM_feb22_0125.dng

Release Date: April 05, 2019

Genre: Action & Adventure

Cast: Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Mark Strong, Djimon Hounsou

Summary (from Rotten Tomatoes):

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word–SHAZAM!–this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart–inside a ripped, godlike body–Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Review By Me

I was not familiar with Shazam until I played 2013’s Injustice: Gods Among Us video game a few years back. Then hearing about the release of this film last year, I said I know this character from playing Injustice. Yesterday I saw Shazam! and I loved it (which I knew I would)..I’m a Marvel fan and I do enjoy watching DC movies and recently I feel the DCEU is definitely stepping their game up. I like the story behind Shazam as far as how he gains his powers and the council/the wizard on how and why he becomes the champion. And hopefully I’m not spoiling anything (I try not too lol) as you read this review. In Shazam! I really did like how much the family concept and creating a home is displayed and discussed when Billy Batson’s stays with his new foster family, they were loving and welcoming. And can we pleaseee discuss Zachary Levi, I mean he  was born for this role, besides being incredibly handsome and charismatic, he embodied this character so well; His acting as a 15 year old boy is so good; Him juggling and learning how to use his powers, makes him into this likable hero; You can tell Levi enjoyed playing this role. I’d also like to highlight the cast that played Billy’s foster family, that family/sibling dynamic, which Billy isn’t probably familiar with definitely stuck with him as you see throughout the film and the ending. This movie definitely sheds a positive light on foster families. Plus with the help from his foster brother, Freddy, who is the superhero fanatic, Shazam was able to discover his powers and more about this hero lifestyle; The villain Dr. Sivana, has an interesting backstory on how and why he became the way he is, let’s just say he wasn’t “pure of heart”. Shazam! has some great action: This, the humor, and Billy becoming Shazam is what makes this film fun. There are some surprises in this film and other great references to the other characters in the DCEU, because who doesn’t love surprises and references. This movie is a great addition to the DCEU, which I knew after seeing the first trailer that this film would do so well and be a really amazing movie; This is an unique superhero film, not like others we’ve seen in a while. Shazam! is fun, entertaining, amazing, funny, heartwarming, and pure magic. I am in love with this movie; It’s actually my favorite movie of the DCEU and I would definitely pay to go see it again; Director, David F. Sandberg did a great job on this film; I recommend this movie to any superhero fan both Marvel or DC, and I think everyone should watch this film; The future is looking bright for DC; Will you be seeing Shazam! this weekend or if you’ve seen it, let me know what you think in the comments below.

Captain Marvel (Movie Review)

cm 11

Release Date: March 08, 2019

Genre: Action & Adventure

Cast: Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Jude Law

Summary (from Rotten Tomatoes):

The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Review By Me

Being one of the most anticipated movies of the year, MCU’s 21st film is out and is kicking butt at the box office. I was not familiar with this character until the mid-credit scene of last year’s Avengers: Infinity War. From that scene we can expect Captain Marvel to help the heroes of Infinity War defeat Thanos and hopefully restore earth’s population, so its only right we get a movie on her. Now let’s hop into my movie review on Captain Marvel. Of course this movie is suppose to take place in the 90s and with seeing an actual Blockbuster, references about 90s T.V. shows/movies, and the 90s music, the movie stayed true to that era. I also enjoyed the action scenes, especially those scenes that featured Captain Marvel fighting and using the energy blasts coming from her hands; I think she has some cool powers. Another thing I loved about the movie, was the relationship between Captain Marvel and Nick Fury, they’ve established a great dynamic relationship, which was nice to see develop. I also wanted to highlight the performances of Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, and Lashana Lynch; each gave great performances giving us memorable characters. I also enjoyed the visual effects; which did not look cheesy or bad, and the CGI was great; And lets not forget that the humor was well placed. I feel that every film in the MCU has some humor, which works. I honestly feel like the movie was well paced, some may argue that the beginning was slow and despite what you may have heard or read about this movie, I say that this film is a good addition to the MCU collection. Captain Marvel is a fun and exciting film that introduces us to this powerful heroine. I would definitely recommend this movie if you are a Marvel fan, and I say it is worth watching; I think Brie Larson is amazing as Captain Marvel and I think she did great in this movie; including the cast; So If you saw Captain Marvel, or plan on seeing it let me know what you think in the comments below !
